Our monthly cribbage tournament was well attended by 24, light hearted, fun loving folks on April 10. Play got underway at 1:00 p.m. with some teams scoring big points in the first game, while others just dawdled along. My partner, Joyce Kattler, and I suffered a sound defeat in the first round. Oh well, on to round two, and up against Joyce's son, Ken Kattler and partner, Les Radcliffe. On Ken's turn to deal, he shuffled the deck, then gave the cards “The P & H Poke”. We all had quite the laugh over that move. It turned out that he had dealt himself an awesome hand, scoring 20 points! So, not to be outdone by her son, Joyce shuffles the cards next, and gives the cards “The P & H Poke”. Good grief, she never even scored one point for us! Apparently, there is a trick to that little manoeuvre!! We all enjoyed another fit of laughter. Three teams ended the day with 6 points each, so then scoring goes to the number of pegs. That put Joyce Kattler and I in first place with a total of 109 pegs. We each received $15 and this months bragging rights. Laura DeVocht and Joy Inouye ended the afternoon with 109 pegs and pocketed $12 each. Hot on their heels, and just a few pegs less, Liz Mayer and Dorothy Bartley were happy with their $8 win. By the time you are reading this, our new flooring project should be in the finishing stages. We are all super excited for the renovation to be completed and to see the transformation.
