And so the saying goes ... “all good things must come to an end”. The Indian Head Heritage Club along with coordinators Joyce Kattler, and Janice Gooding, and their awesome support crew wish to thank all those who came out for the “Summer Fun Canasta Nights”. A special thanks to Shirley and John who came from Davin every time, in the nick of time! Even though playing with a small crowd of 20 on August 26, someone let the monkey's out! Seated at the bottom of the barrel was Mavis Jealous ($1), who was left wondering if there were ANY wild cards in the decks. Slightly higher up in the barrel of fun, and finding just a few more wild cards was Blanche Randall ($10) and Anne Robb ($15). Climbing to the top of the barrel and very successful in finding lots of wild cards and canastas, was Joy Inouye ($20). Please take a stroll or slow drive by the Heritage Club (505 Otterloo St.) and note our NEW, full of information, sign board. Our fall/winter program notices will appear here soon once dates and particulars are confirmed and guest speakers are booked. Check the monthly calendars for card, pool, pot luck lunch and meeting dates. Our Steak Night Fundraiser is set to go October 26 – imagine ... a
So, there we are, 13 of us gathered for our monthly crib tournament (August 9) and we are one person shy of being able to make it work... Yep, we have a great scoring system worked out! Phone call made ... and Ronny O. is on his way! Our cribbage contact person, Claire (695-3357), is a miracle worker and I believe keeps Aces (and 5's) up her sleeve! Although Ronny didn't make it into the prize pool, George Poitras and Lies VanMarion did for $20, followed by Eldeen Boehmer and Eleanor Gares ($12) ... and sometimes no luck at all counts for something... Claire VanMarion and Blanche Randall $8.00. The Heritage Club is contemplating a few “good 'ole fashion” crib tournaments this winter. You know ... where the games begin at 10:00 am, coffee all day, homemade lunch served and then we get down to more serious play for a few hours, and everyone gets home safe before the sun sets. Call your son or daughter, niece, nephew or grandchildren and mention it to your coffee buddy's! By the way (btw!), no cell phones and no calculators allowed, that's the way this game is played. Winter lasts a long time here on the prairies, let's have some fun in the meantime! And, if you are feeling a little rusty, we play every Thursday afternoon at the Heritage Club, rain or shine, win or loose, it's all about the good time!
Have you ever noticed that some individuals just seem to be lucky at bingo, raffle draws, lottery tickets, cards ... and love? Perhaps Kenny Rogers' was right in his song “The Gambler” ... “knowin' what to throw away, And knowin' what to keep”. Our Summer Fun Canasta Night (held July 22) drew 24 people out to play. Claire VanMarion ended the evening at the top of the pack ($20). Claire must have had her lucky horseshoe with her that evening. She managed (aided by various partners) to get two joker canasta's in even more than one game! The women shut the men out of the prize circle – Shirley Waas ($15), Alma Kelln ($10) and Liz Mayer ($1). We have one more Canasta Night scheduled for August 26, give Joyce Kattler a call to register and come join in the fun.
