I can hardly believe this is my final story for 2018! It has been a crazy, busy time these last few weeks with social activities, events to attend with family & friends and within our fabulous community. On Dec. 1, members and their guests, 90 in total, gathered at the Heritage Club for our annual Christmas Dinner. We thank our caterer, Jamie Baker and his family of elves, for a fabulous turkey dinner. I hear tell I missed out on a pretty tasty spread. I was very much “under the weather” and unable to attend. I did pass my ticket on to a new friend, Elaine, who quipped “anytime, for a feast like that!” We also owe a big round of applause to our members who organized the event, decorated the hall, set up tables & chairs and cleaned everything up at the end of the evening. A huge thank you to our talented member, Ivy Clark, for playing the piano and getting everyone in the Christmas Spirit! On Dec. 11, we had 20 cribbage players come out for our monthly tournament. I had truly lousy cards the first half and I felt sorry for my partner, for I was no help at all! After finishing in third place last month, Carolyn Weikum and Kathy Robb teamed up again. The ladies found the right mix to the cards and finished the day in first place this time. Each took home $13. Not far behind, Audrey Lyke and Eldeen Boehmer had a few great hands, lots of fun, settled into 2nd place and $9 each. Dorthy Bartley teamed up with Hazel Poitras and even though they struggled through a few games, their score was enough to grab 3rd place honours and $6 each.
On Monday, Dec. 17, twenty of us gathered for an exciting afternoon of Canasta. Play got underway promptly at 1:00 pm, with a first meld of 50 points. Everyone seems to be enjoying the “steal a foot” twist we introduced last month. Shirley Waas and Ellen Varley lost the first game to Eldeen Boehmer and myself .... but it turns out the gals get the last laugh! The final score cards reveal that Shirley and Ellen beat us by a mere 10 points!! Too funny!! In third place we found Eleanor Gares and Judy Woidyla, only 560 points behind us.
On behalf of all members of the Indian Head Heritage Club, we sincerely wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
